Free improvisational experimental jazz
The idea behind AVLOS is quite simple: We wanted to literally stop thinking. We just wanted to create sounds, without caring if the final sonic result is going to be nice. We do not even care whether this can be called music. With great pleasure we understood that in this context , we can achieve this. As long as the Muse is watching over us, we are not thinking, we just create sounds ecstatically, any way possible. AVLOS is a completely experimental project. Literally it is the interaction between two overly different musical instruments, two massively different worlds -and not only. Symbolically it is our ultimately definite desire to be free, out of context and way out of our minds and the norms within them.
Today’s society, while being seemingly democratic and free, in reality its expressive limits are indeed very strict. I am kind of imprisoned by these and my personal escape can be found in this context we have created with Manolis Papadakis (lyra) and Ilias Pantazis (bass), which we decided to call AVLOS. In this context, what counts is not the aesthetic, but the power of expression. Music is not realised as melody, but as a wider collaboration of sounds. We do not use improvisation to develop our sounds, but as a way of communication between those two main instruments; overall, our improvisation is being utilized as the language for the coexistence of two people in one of the holiest places of our utopia: the space of Art.
